The Shasta County Fire Safe Council has a sub-committee that meets every two weeks. For the past six months, the committee has come together to establish needed goals for the upcoming fire season. The first goal was to establish a new and improved web site. The site you are viewing now. The second was to make the Sierra Cascade Logging Conference our ‘Kick Off’ function for the new year. Done and done. The next goal is to energize a ‘Team’ of dedicated private individuals from ‘all walks’. You see, all Fire Safe Councils across the United States are made up of concerned Americans who have something to offer. Think about your business. Think about your education. Even your hobbies. Do you have something to offer your community for fire safety? Then we want you. What’s the ROI? Glad you asked. Becoming a member of a worthy cause, such as a service club, COPE, or CERT can be very rewarding in the connection of other VIP’s who make a difference in their communities. Wouldn’t you like to meet and to collaborate with these generous citizens? Then don’t be shy. Stop by the
Fire Safe Trailer at a Home Show, or come to a meeting. The meeting is open to individuals and companies concerned with fire safe efforts. If you would like to attend a meeting sometime, take a look at the calendar and choose a date. The calendar is located in the title bar under ‘About Us’. Thank you for viewing the Shasta County Fire Safe web site, and for your consideration. We look forward to hearing from you. Please use the contact page and send a question or an endorsement. The Council has helped many Shasta County residents.
Flash forward to the Home & Garden Show March 10th and 11th 2012. The Fire Safe Trailer was set up under the entry bridge at the Convention Center. With background music and construction videos of the Wildland Urban Interface, the trailer was a big draw. Lots of networking with local contractors and suppliers. Now all we need is for some of them to show up at our committee meetings. All in all, a very good start for the year so far.
Flash forward to the Anderson Home & Garden Show March 23rd -25th
The Fire Safe Trailer was at the Shasta District Fair Grounds for the Popovics Productions Home & Garden Show. We had a show stopping video sent by James Hardie Siding. The video showed fire burning through vinyl and cedar siding, but only staining the cement board siding of Hardie. Lots of people stopped and watched the video, as it is a direct indicator of what can happen to a house in little time when fire threatens. Truly an educational moment. Isn’t that what the Fire Safe Council is all about?

Next Project for 2012
The Shasta County Fire Safe Council and ARCA (Amateur Radio Club of Anderson) will help with Firewood collection this Saturday May 5th at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area from 8-3. Anyone is welcome to buy a firewood permit ($20.00 per cord on site) and fill their truck with Knob-cone pine that is pre-cut and ready to load at the Whiskey Creek Group Picnic Area at the end of Pioneer Dr. There is some 100 cord of firewood. Be early, the last time this happened, there was a ‘feeding frenzy’. If you need help loading, please bring help. The crew is small and we need our volunteers to organize the effort.
