  • Work with neighbors to keep your street clean
  • Locate and clearly mark all fire hydrants in your neighborhood

10 Tips For Creating a Safe Zone in Your Yard

  1. Don’t leave your ground bare – bare ground can be an erosion hazard
  2. Reduce ground cover (shrub) height to less than twelve inches in the 30 foot zone, less than 18 inches in the 100 foot zone
  3. Thin yard trees so canopies do not touch
  4. Prune lower branches of yard trees to eliminate ladder fuels
  5. Favor slow burning plants
  6. Move combustible material away from buildings (such as firewood and lumber)
  7. Enclose deck foundations
  8. Keep rain gutters clear of leaves, needles, etc.
